At Piedmont Golden Retrievers, we are deeply committed to the ethical, intentional, and individualized care of every dog in our program. Rather than housing dogs in kennel environments, each of our Goldens is raised and lives as a cherished family companion in a private home.

To support this philosophy while continuing our breeding program responsibly, we partner with a select number of families through our Guardian Home Program. A guardian home provides a permanent, loving environment for a puppy we have identified as a strong potential candidate for our breeding program.

How the Program Works

As a guardian family, you will welcome a carefully selected, pick-of-the-litter puppy into your home at no purchase cost. This puppy is chosen based on temperament, structure, and overall potential.

You provide the foundation every dog deserves—a stable, attentive home environment, proper nutrition, routine veterinary care, and consistent training and socialization.

At approximately two years of age, we will coordinate comprehensive health and genetic evaluations to determine whether the dog meets the standards required for our breeding program. All associated testing and veterinary expenses are covered by Piedmont Golden Retrievers, and we coordinate these appointments for your convenience.

If the dog does not meet our program criteria, she will be spayed and full ownership transfers to you with no further obligations.

If the dog is selected for the program, she will be bred on a limited basis—typically no more than 3–4 litters. During these times, we will coordinate temporary care and breeding arrangements, and all associated expenses remain our responsibility.

Following her final litter, the dog will be retired—typically by six years of age—and spayed. At that time, full ownership remains with your family, and all contractual obligations conclude.

Training, Titles & Development

We place a high value on continued development and meaningful engagement with each dog. Preference is given to guardian families who are interested in pursuing training, certifications, or titles—whether in obedience, therapy work, service foundations, or American Kennel Club conformation events.

Participation in conformation showing provides an opportunity for a dog to be evaluated against the breed standard, while also strengthening handling skills and deepening the bond between dog and owner. Likewise, performance and service-oriented training further demonstrate the temperament, trainability, and versatility we strive to preserve in our lines.

To support these efforts, Piedmont Golden Retrievers offers modest financial compensation or reimbursement for approved training programs, certifications, titles, and show participation. We are happy to collaborate with families to identify opportunities that are a strong fit for both the dog and the household.
