Piedmont Golden Retrievers believes in the ethical and humane care of all animals, including the Goldens in our breeding program. To that end, we do not have “kennels” and instead all of our dogs live inside the home with us as family pets so that each one can get the care, attention, and love that they deserve. Because of this, we offer a Guardian Home Program. A Guardian Home is a permanent, loving, forever home for puppies who we believe may be a good fit for our breeding program.
How It Works
You receive a top of the line, pick of the litter puppy at absolutely no cost to you. This is a puppy that we believe possesses the specific traits that we feel may make a valuable contribution to our breeding program. You are responsible for providing this puppy with a safe and loving home, routine medical care including vaccinations, food appropriate for the growth of a large breed puppy, basic training, etc.
When the puppy is approximately 2 years of age, Piedmont Golden Retrievers will arrange a series of tests to determine whether the puppy meets strict requirements for our breeding program. This will include health screenings, genetic testing, and more. This will come at no cost to you. You won’t even have to attend the veterinary appointments!
If at the conclusion of testing, we determine that the dog is not a good fit for our program, we will have the animal spayed and our contract and involvement will end. If though we determine that the dog would be a good fit for our program, then the dog will be bred up to 3-4 times. You will be responsible for making the dog available during requested times but will not be responsible for any of the expenses associated with the litters.
After the dog has been bred, she will be retired from our breeding program by the age of 6- at which point she will be spayed at the expense of Piedmont Golden Retrievers. At her last litter, you will again be given a pick of the litter puppy for FREE but with zero obligation to participate in our breeding program. At this point, our contract will terminate.
We believe The Guardianship Program is a win-win-win! This ensures our dogs are well cared for, only bred if they are of superior quality, and never over bred. We get to continue the work that we love of producing quality golden puppies. And you get 2 incredible pick of the litter puppies (valued at over $5,000) for free!
Requirements:
Must complete application for puppy (check box for guardianship program)
Must live within approximately 100 miles of Salisbury, North Carolina
All opposite sex dogs in the home must be spayed/neutered
Willing to agree to a home visit
Willing to provide training of basic commands (sit, stay, come) and to socialize puppy
Provide routine veterinary care when needed
Allow breeder (Piedmont Golden Retrievers) reasonable access to the dog for veterinary appointments and to take possession of the dog 1 week prior to whelping date and until the puppies are weaned
Willing to sign Guardianship Program Contract
